Lowe's
home improvement store is one of many businesses that have pulled
their ads from appearing during the controversial new TLC's
"All-American Muslim" television show.
Lowe's, prompted by
the Florida Family Association to pull its
sponsorship of the new reality show, is being accused by California Senator Ted Lieu of bigotry and
intolerance. And Lieu has gone on record with the Associated Press as
having called Lowe's decision "un-American" and "naked religious
bigotry."
Lieu did not stop there in his
statement. Lieu also said that he would consider
legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and
reinstate its ads. This was confirmed to me on the
phone this afternoon. His office does not deny a thing and
actually defends it all.
I was shocked at the illogical
stand that Lieu's office is taking in this matter. Over the course
of two phone calls, I was able to get a clear view of the true
bigotry of his office and the true un-American behavior. Senator
Lieu appears to be a constitution illiterate.
Going off
of what was said on the phone calls, Lieu believes that Lowe’s is
obligated under the separation of church and state, to run ads on
the show. He also believes that he can get into the hearts
of Americans and legislate out, anything that he
considers to be hate and intolerance. The man should work on his own
heart and leave others alone.
I
let Lieu's office know that the first amendment actually protects
Lowe's right to not have anything to do with any religion that it
does not want to be involved with. I also let it be known that the
government cannot legislate people's hearts.
I don't believe
that it is hate for the Muslim people that caused
Lowe's to pull their ads. It appears to me that Lowe's simply
realized that it is not a good idea to get involved in the
religious/political agenda of the show's theme. And not
sponsoring shows that have a religious/political agenda, actually
promotes an atmosphere of inclusion and tolerance of all people into
their stores.
