What Happened Between The First And Second Verses of Genesis

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Check out what Isaiah 45:18 says. It says that God "formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited..."

Isaiah 45:18
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

It is believed by many, that something happened between verse 1 of Genesis and verse 2, something that caused the earth that God had "formed" and created "not in vain," to become "without form" and "void.

The bible does not say what happened, but clearly something happened. Because originally God created the earth, not in vain and it was formed by Him. --Genesis 1:1 and Isaiah 45:18 say this. But Genesis chapter 1 verse 2, shows God's creation had drastically changed; becoming void and without form. Could the event that changed the earth have been when Satan was cast down here?
