On
the same day of a town meeting without Louise Slaughter, who
refuses to meet with us, she issued a statement saying that she is
not going to give "Those people" a forum.
If we are whom she
calls, "Those people," then I am proud to be such. All of the people
that were at the meeting that I hosted, were wonderful people,
people who Louise Slaughter should consider herself blessed to hear
from. Instead she puts us all off, as if we are some kind of freak
group, as THOSE PEOPLE!

After Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, went
after a large number of her constituents that criticize the H.R.
3200 Health Care Reform Bill and her refusal to meet with them, her
office said she reached 1,200 of her constituents on her
phone-meeting calls and she went on record as having said that she
has the best relationship with her constituents “than anyone can
even imagine.”
This
is odd for a woman who clearly is scared to meet with many of her
constituents and for no good reason. Are we all to pay for what she
claims a group did in a meeting, close to two decades ago? I say if
she is too scared to meet with her constituents, she has no business
representing them.
But,
nonetheless, apparently, it is a popularity contest to Louise
Slaughter, one that she clearly is in denial of the true outcome of.
Just because she is able to motivate people that like her, to get
out and vote, does not mean that she has a great “relationship” with
the majority of her constituents. It is no secret that it is harder
to motivate people to believe that their vote will count to get a
person out of office, than in.
Out
of 152,230 people who showed up to vote in 2006, Louise received
111,386. At first, that looks great. This is until you realize that
there is a population of over 650,000 in her district. (Population
data is from the year, 2000.)
Louise
has a pattern of speaking out of turn. In an interview with WXXI,
the congresswoman generalized, saying that everyone has a
life-time-cap on their insurance that will run out with one serious
injury and that they will never be able to be insured in this
country again. (Talk about a fear tactic!) This is not generally the
truth of the situation. It is only true for some people, whose
employer funds their insurance. People, like myself that go directly
through a private health care insurance company have no
cap.
As
for her office’s comment of Louise Slaughter, having reached 1,200
people on her phone-meeting calls, I'll be impressed when 1,200 of
her constituents can reach her.
