Ex-Gays In Nation's Capital Are Not Included
- D.C. Mayor Apologizes For
Appreciating Work For Ex-Gays
It
appears that ex-gays are not included in the people that D.C. Mayor
Adrian M. Fenty (D) wishes to be in his "inclusive"
city.
Fenty claims it to have been a staff error,
that he signed an appreciation award to Regina Griggs for her work
for ex-gays. Fenty is now hiding behind a spokesperson who
has since said, "We apologize for the error as it runs contrary to
the mayor's vision of a more open and inclusive city." According to
a Washington Post article, the spokes person, Mafara Hobson, also
said, "The mayor is proud of his ardent support of the LGBT
community."
Regina Griggs,
who in the past I've had the pleasure of speaking with in great
length, works very hard to help protect ex-gays in a society that
claims homosexuality is a place of no return.
The award that was signed by the Mayor
states, "In recognition of your dedication, commitment and
outstanding contributions as Executive Director of Parents and
Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays." --Perhaps the
single line was too much for him to
understand.
The
irony of it all is that the LGBT community is not
satisfied. According to the Washington Post article, they want
Fenty to "denounce the ex-gay movement." I could have seen that
one coming a mile away! You should never feed a monster; it
will take your arm off and eat it next. People need to learn, there
is no satisfying the devil. You cannot bargain with him. You cannot
please him.
The article states that
a spokesperson for the LGBT community said, "It is an
embarrassment to our city that he would make such an offensive
mistake." Hey, ya just cannot make this stuff up! They
are out loud and proud in the nation's capital, with that
which they should be hiding in shame. But this award is an
embarrassment in a city where gays are welcomed and ex-gays are
clearly not.
